Security & Donor Trust Assessment
FusionTek’s Nonprofit Security & Donor Trust Assessment
Thank you — your assessment is ready below.
Over the next 3 minutes, you’ll answer 12 questions about how your organization handles security today, from account access and donor data protection to staff training and incident readiness.
When you finish, you’ll immediately see your Donor Trust Rating — a letter grade that tells you how safely you’re handling the information donors entrust to you — along with your overall security maturity tier, a category-by-category breakdown of your results, and a personalized action plan that prioritizes your biggest gaps with specific, practical steps to close them.
How to take the assessment
Getting accurate results is simple — just answer honestly. There are no trick questions and no technical knowledge required. For each of the 12 questions, choose the option that best describes what your organization does today — not what you’re planning to do, not what your policy binder says, but what actually happens in practice. An accurate “as-is” picture is what makes your results and action plan genuinely useful.
A few things to know as you go:
- One question at a time — select an answer and the next question appears automatically
- About 3 minutes — most people finish in less time than a coffee refill
- You can go back — a Back button lets you revisit and change any answer
- Results are instant — your full report appears the moment you answer the last question

Nonprofit Security & Donor Trust Assessment
Your donors trust you with their information — their names, their giving history, their payment details. This assessment shows you how well that trust is protected, and where your overall security stands.
Answer 12 quick questions (about 3 minutes) about how your organization handles security today. Answer honestly based on where you are right now, not where you plan to be — an accurate picture is what makes the results useful.
When you finish, you'll see your Donor Trust Rating (a letter grade), your overall security maturity tier, and a personalized action plan for your biggest gaps.

How to Read Your Results
Your results have two parts, and they answer two different questions.
1. Your Donor Trust Rating (A–F) measures how safely you handle the information donors entrust to you — where it lives, who can access it, and how payments are protected. It blends your Donor Data Protection answers with your overall security posture, because donor data is only as safe as the systems and people around it. Think of this grade as the answer to: "Could I confidently tell a donor their information is safe with us?"
2. Your Overall Security Maturity tier measures your organization-wide security across all four categories. Think of this as the answer to: "How well could we withstand a real attack?" Tiers are not grades — they're a roadmap. Most organizations start in the lower tiers, and every step up measurably reduces risk.

Gaining Donor Trust
So you know if you can be trusted... Now what?
Here’s the uncomfortable truth about where most organizations land: MFA is no longer a differentiator — it’s table stakes. Attackers have adapted, and the modern breach rarely happens because a company lacked MFA entirely. It happens because of the gaps around it: a service account nobody enrolled, a legacy app with an exception that quietly became permanent, an executive using SMS codes because “it’s good enough.”
The good news is that MFA maturity is one of the few security investments where progress is measurable, incremental, and compounding. You don’t need a rip-and-replace project or a six-figure budget to move up a tier — most organizations can make their single biggest improvement in weeks, not quarters, using tools they already license.
Donor Trust Is Your Most Valuable Asset — and the Easiest to Lose
A single breach of donor data can undo years of relationship-building. Studies show donors who experience a breach-related inconvenience take their giving elsewhere — and tell others why. Protecting donor data isn’t an IT issue; it’s stewardship of the trust that funds your mission.
Nonprofits Are a Growing Target
Attackers actively pursue nonprofits because they hold valuable data but historically invest less in security. Business email compromise, phishing during year-end giving campaigns, and ransomware targeting smaller organizations are all on the rise — and the losses, especially fraudulent wire transfers, are rarely recovered.
Your People Are Your Perimeter
Staff, volunteers, and board members all touch your systems — and volunteers often receive zero security training. One convincing phishing email to an untrained volunteer can expose your entire donor database. Security-first organizations make every person a line of defense, not a point of vulnerability.
Funders Are Watching
Grantors and major donors increasingly ask about data protection practices before awarding funds. A documented, mature security posture isn’t just protection — it’s becoming a competitive advantage in grant applications and major-gift conversations.
